Charlotte was the absolute epitome of a community booster - from church to school to engagement in the political life of the state and nation! She was indefatigable in pursuing her vision of Iowa values and never accepted second best in any of her farming, business, philanthropic, and personal ventures. She was the quintessence of an independent lady, a woman who never lost her gracious and unassuming energy for what mattered.

John and I met Charlotte and Jim through John's employer, Agri Industries in West Des Moines. We became friends and corresponded over the years. I remember Charlotte took us on a wonderful tour of the Farm in Eldridge in the late 80's as I know it was after Jim's death. Charlotte was so proud of the farm and her family history there.
I learned much from Charlotte as she was a wonderful example of how to live a good life.

In 1992, she received the Distinguished Service to Iowa Agriculture award from the Iowa Farm Bureau.
