Bettendorf Daycare Provider Dies

Betty Van Osdel, 69, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services in celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 30th at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3775 Middle, Road, Bettendorf, with Pastor Jack Goldberger officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 PM Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Betty's family asks that memorials be made to In Touch Ministries (P. O. Box 7900 Atlanta, GA 30357), Bible Study Fellowship International (19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX 78258), Our Savior Lutheran Church, or Genesis Hospice (2535 Maplecrest Road, Suite #4, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722).

Betty was born in 1940 in Davenport, Iowa to Claude and Bernice Duvall. She married Arthur Van Osdel on June 3, 1961 in Muscatine, Iowa. For over 41 years Betty was a daycare provider in her home, retiring in 1999. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bible Study Fellowship, and Home Daycare Association. In earlier years she had worked for National Tea grocery store. Her varied interests included refinishing furniture, camping with family, reading, cooking, and taking cooking classes with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Art "Bub", daughter, Dawn (Dave) Deasy of Bettendorf; son, Mark (Natalie) Van Osdel of Eldridge; grandchildren, Nicholas and Elizabeth Deasy and Garrett and Sasha Van Osdel; sisters, Ruth (Gary) Ross of Bettendorf, and Muriel Philebar of East Moline; and brother, Ron (Kathy) Duvall of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Sharon Weimer.
