Wilbur Fiske Pillsbury II, 88, formerly of 115 Lake View Drive, East Galesburg, IL, died surrounded by his family on the evening of April 1, 2010 in Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, IA.

He was born August 7, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Herbert and Alma Thorson Pillsbury. He married Katherine Wheeler on September 22, 1946 in Hanover, NH. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1980. He later married Maxine Tucker on December 15, 1984 in Seattle, WA.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Galesburg, three sons, Wilbur F. (and Lorie) Pillsbury III of Tyler, TX, Roger (and Becky) Pillsbury of Milwaukee, WI, and Ronald (and Patti) Pillsbury of Burr Ridge, IL., two daughters, Carol (and Charles) Pavlish of Forest Lake, MN and Jeanne (and Scott) Voigt of Bettendorf, IA, and 13 loving grandchildren who were the pride of his life. In addition to his first wife, Katherine, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, and a sister.

Wilbur was at Knox College in Galesburg for 49 years, retiring in 1998. While at Knox, he was Professor of Economics and Dean of Students. He graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis in 1938, Dartmouth College in 1946 with a Bachelor's degree, Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth with a Master's degree, and received his PhD from Indiana University in 1952.

He was a member of Central Congregational Church in Galesburg since 1949, where he taught Sunday school for over 25 years and held many leadership positions. He was a member of the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club, Soangetaha Country Club, the American Economic Association, and the American Accounting Association.

Wilbur volunteered and proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 39 months during World War II.

A celebration of Wilbur's life will be on April 24, 1:00PM at Central Congregational Church. Rev. Thomas Heather will officiate. Private family committal of cremated remains will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, where Military Rites will be accorded by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wilbur F. Pillsbury II Scholarship Fund at Knox College or to Central Congregational Church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements in Galesburg. Online condolences may be made at or by completing the Condolence box below.
